Once, when Renugai went to
the Lotus pond to take bath, she happened to see the shadow of a
Gandharva, (celestial) through the pond water. When
she wondered at the handsome and youthful appearance of the
Gandharva, the mud pot in her hand broke and the water wetted her whole body.
Parasuramar cutting
the head of his mother
Knowing this, Saint Jamathakni got angry and ordered his son Parasuramar to cut
the head of his mother. Parasuramar obeyed the orders and severed the
head of his mother Renugai. He also severed his hand. Then he returned to his
father and asked for a boon to bring his mother alive. Saint Jamathakni
yielded to his request and offered water from his kamandalam reciting
mantras.
Joining the head of Renugai with the body of a
female sinner
Parasuramar went to the place where he
severed the head of his mother. By mistake he joined the head of his mother with the body of a
female sinner found nearby and sprinkled the holy water brought from the
Saint Jamathakni. Renugai came alive. Parasuramar went to his father and narrated
the mistake committed by him. Saint Jamathakni told Parasuramar
"what had happened was the will of God, hence could not be changed" and permitted Renugai to continue her service at the Ashram.
